Story
Precious Wings is taking part in the Brisbane Marathon Festival 2017 on August 6th and hoping to raise much needed funds for bereaved families.
We are going to be sweating it out and doing our best to complete a gruelling course, but in doing so we will be making our run count! We would really appreciate your support in this endeavour. Join our team and start your own fundraising page or donate to one of our team members of the team itself.
Precious Wings supply Memory Boxes to hospitals in Brisbane and the Gold Coast and these are given to families who lose a baby, of any gestation, and to families who lose a child up to the age of 16, regardless of cause of death. We also supply miscarriage memory bags to early pregnancy units and emergency departments and provide free education sessions to hospital staff about caring for bereaved families.
Losing a child is one of the most tragic events that a family could possibly experience. It is not only a heartbreaking time but can also be a very lonely and isolating one. At Precious Wings, we strive to provide comfort, hope and a feeling of not being alone at this time. The overwhelming response we receive from our families is that to have their loss acknowledged, and to feel supported by others who've experienced similar loss, even though they are strangers, is very touching and brings immense comfort when leaving hospital with empty arms. When you have a child, your instinct is to protect them; when you lose a child, your instinct is to protect their memory. At Precious Wings, we provide a means for families to make precious memories and keep them safe in a beautiful way. As we know, families will revisit these memories time and time again, particularly on those tough days when their loss feels overwhelming. These memories sustain families by providing a tangible link to their
child and ensuring their child remains a part of their family story.

Each year the RBWH alone treats more than 800,000 patients from throughout Queensland, as well as Northern New South Wales, the Northern Territory, parts of the Pacific Rim and internationally by providing disaster medical support. Clinical and medical researchers based at the RBWH, STARS, Herston Health Precinct and Redcliffe Hospital conduct research with the aim of improving world practice to save and improve lives in most health areas, including: Infectious diseases, including COVID-19, Cancer Care, Mental Health, Regional and Remote areas, Neurological diseases and disorders including stroke, Parkinson’s and MND, Women’s and Babies Health…just to name a few!
